The department will provide a safe transportation system that ensures the mobility of people and goods, enhances economic prosperity, and preserves the quality of our environment and communities.
FDOT serves the people of Florida by providing a transportation network that is well planned, supports economic growth, and has the goal of being congestion and fatality free. The FDOT compass helps achieve these goals now and, in the future, by emphasizing the importance of having clear direction and accountability in transportation. Interchange improvements to enhance mobility and access to local communities 
Adding 30 miles of auxiliary lanes to reduce congestion and providing drivers more space and time to merge safely 
Updating facilities for improved longevity 
Enhance product distribution by improving travel time reliability and timely delivery of goods 
Installing smart work zone technologies to increase safety for drivers and construction workers by preventing collisions, reducing crash damage, and minimize traffic delays 
Creating new employment opportunities during construction, and increasing economic activity
